A Note of Gratitude
from Larry E. Schultz, Minister of Music
Dear Friends:
Never in my ministry have I received such an overwhelming expression of love as I experienced last Sunday in the celebration of my 20 years as Minister of Music with Pullen!
I am grateful to the Personnel Committee, the celebration planning group, church staff, Music Ministry Group members and everyone who had a part in the preparations, leadership and surprises for the day. The encouragement of the gathered and remote congregation along with the personal words and cards of thanks will continue to be treasured as will the time, energy and talent given by many.
Though the pandemic altered plans at the last minute, the worship service was no-less meaningful, and I was moved by each meticulously planned detail. To have the surprise of a hymn commissioned for me by Jann Aldredge-Clanton with whom I collaborate (see below) was very special. This is the first time in my ministry a commissioned work has been given in my honor. And, to receive a ministerial stole (see below), thoughtfully handcrafted by Pullen friends that visually displays a history of my journey and work at Pullen is beyond words. The sights and sounds of the service, including the instrumental, choral, and congregational music will remain in my mind’s eye and ear to energize my work in the days to come.
The “roast” and original staff song were unexpected fun that celebrated relationships with my colleagues and others, and the ice-cream reception that followed provided a chance to converse with friends and have my first taste (believe it or not) of “Howling Cow” ice cream!
On this 20th Anniversary, I give thanks to my family who lovingly supports my work, for the growth I continue to experience here, for our Music Ministry that resonates our life together, and for the people and place called Pullen.
With deep gratitude,
-Larry
