Living with Illness Have you had a change in your health status that has necessitated a shift in the way you live your life day-to-day? Are you living with a chronic disease—diagnosed or not-yet-diagnosed? You’re invited to join a small, supportive online community of compassionate people who practice mediation, reflection, and nonjudgmental listening with each other. We meet on Mondays at 12:30 over Zoom. For more information contact Dana Lindquist d.lindquist@icloud.com
Our Group’s Values and Commitments:
Because it is hard to still our minds when we live with pain, we commit to coming into our own and each other’s presence with lovingkindness through meditation at the start of each meeting.
Because we value trust, we will honor confidentiality.
Because we value understanding, we commit to listening without interruption.
Because we respect that each person knows best what their needs are, sharing is always optional.
Because we all come with doubts, fears, and failings, we commit to nonjudgmental listening and speaking.
Because we value everyone’s sense of self, we welcome each person with hospitality and seek to heal the sense of isolation that the social stigma of illness often creates.
When we are struck by the power of what someone shares, we recognize silence as an appropriate response. We commit to checking in with our inner teacher before we respond to an urge to fill the silence. We will learn to know how to speak only what needs to be spoken from the heart. This will take time together, and no one will be perfect at it.
Because we value feeling deeply heard, we commit to growing in our individual skill at asking open and honest questions so that each of us can come to trust our own wisdom.
